We offer an interdisciplinary approach toward achieving the best outcomes.
The Winning Wheels treatment philosophy is based on the concept that rehabilitation should be both outcome-oriented and measurable. Also, to ensure that the needs of each individual are met in a thorough, comprehensive manner, an "interdisciplinary" and "transdisciplinary" treatment team approach is utilized. Such approach emphasizes the whole individual, stressing communication and consistency among the treatment team professionals.
The treatment team assesses each individual's cognitive, psychosocial, and physical functional abilities, and combines their individual evaluations into a cohesive, comprehensive treatment plan.
Under the direction of our Medical Director, the treatment team continuously reviews each individual's progress and modifies the treatment plan accordingly. The treatment team is comprised of professionals from the following disciplines:
- Physical Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Recreational Therapy
- Speech Therapy
- Social Work
- Day Treatment Rehabilitation Program
- Cognitive Rehabilitation Program
- Nutrition Services
- Psychology / Counseling
The persons served and their family members are an integral part of the treatment team and are encouraged to participate in the planning process.
The primary goal of Winning Wheels' integrated therapy programs is to enhance the quality of life of persons served by helping them learn new skills and modify old ones to compensate for abilities they have lost. Along with individual therapy sessions, group therapy is also available. Standard and specialized therapy equipment are utilized to augment hands-on treatment administered by highly trained specialists.
- Continuing Education Opportunities
- Microcomputer Data Processing Applications
- Developmental Training Program
Persons served and their family members may receive a wide range of counseling services designed to maximize each individual's level of social and emotional functioning and to provide the family with a supportive therapeutic link. Qualified professionals work with individuals and their families to resolve social, psychological and financial problems. Based on recommendations from the treatment team or physician, a specialist may be enlisted to assess the individual's neuropsychological functioning.
- Patient and Family Counseling
- Behavior Management Counseling
- Psychosocial Peer Support Groups

Rehabilitation Nursing provides for continuous medical and skilled nursing care twenty-four hours a day, seven days each week. The nursing department is comprised of professional Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Rehabilitation Nurses, Rehabilitation Aides and Certified Nursing Assistants.
The nursing staff functions as an integral part of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Comprehensive rehabilitation is strengthened by the continuity evolving from organizing nursing staff in a primary care model. This model allows the professional registered nurse to assume a variety of roles for the purpose of providing consistent, holistic care.
Nursing activities include facets of prevention, maintenance, and restoration. Care is provided as needed in the areas of skin care / pressure ulcer treatment and prevention, and bowel and bladder training. Applications of treatments, tracheostomy care, administration of medication, and gastric tube feedings also exemplify typical nursing responsibilities. Proper positioning, passive range of motion, and transfer ability / mobility training is also provided daily by nursing staff to aid in the prevention of contractures and pressure ulcers and to decrease spasticity and abnormal muscle tone.
Emphasis on the development and enhancement of self-care skills is also a primary function of the nursing department. Training is provided in all activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, dressing and eating.
Wheelchair Seating Clinic involves a team that works with the individual to determine, based on their abilities, lifestyle and daily activity level, a detailed recommendation for the type of wheelchair as well as seating and positioning devices.
